Autrey Nell Wiley was born on May 27, 1901, in Saint Jo, Texas. Her father, James Robert Wiley, was an attorney with an extensive career in law and the Texas legislature. Julia Carolyn Wiley, Autrey's mother, came to Texas from Illinois. Julia was a housewife and apparently suffered from poor health. She passed away in December of 1943.
